Karen Dumas is a
columnist for The Michigan Chronicle
and Michigan Front Page newspapers,
host of the television show, Next
Detroit, co-host of The Art Blackwell
talk radio show, host of the public radio
programs Artifacts and Jazz at the
Center, respected local media
personality, and president of her own PR
firm, Images & Ideas, Inc. (www.imagesandideasinc.com)
She formerly served
as Director of Culture, Art & Tourism for
the City of Detroit, which included the
Detroit Film Office and Eastern Market, and
as Director of Community Relations for Mayor
Kwame M. Kilpatrick.
Dumas
joined the Kilpatrick Administration after
serving as president of her own PR firm for
more than 14 years where she served an
impressive list of corporate, entertainment
and community clients. She returned to
private practice after her tenure with the
Kilpatrick administration and having her own
talk-radio show, “Up Front with Karen
Dumas.”

She serves on the Michigan Film Commission,
Arts League of Michigan, Sphinx, Tourism
Economic Development Council member, and the
Communication Committee for the Detroit Riverfront
Conservancy, among others. The City of
Detroit, State of Michigan, Black Women’s
Contracting Association, and several Who’s
Who entities have recognized her
achievements.

graduated from East Catholic High School and
received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Merchandising from Michigan State
University.
She and her husband, Timothy Cook,
reside in Detroit with their two children.
